Grace Young

Grand Rapids Ballet Summer Intensive 2014-16

Grace is a native of Flint, Michigan and began her training at Young People’s Ballet Theater where she studied under the direction of Denise Paavola as well as four years under Nicholas and Laura Schultz. There she danced leading roles in many works, including Swan Lake, Coppelia, Sleeping Beauty, and Beauty and the Beast. She has attended summer courses at Grand Rapids Ballet, Giordano Dance Chicago, Complextions Contemporary Ballet, and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. The past four summers she has been an assistant for the Ballet Wolcott summer intensive under the direction of Jen Wiley. This past summer, she attended Boston Ballet‘s summer intensive.

Whom do you most admire?

Former Grand Rapids Ballet company dancer, Caroline Wiley.  I grew up watching her dance and she always has inspired me the way she moves to music.

What excites you creatively? 

Getting the opportunity to preform in a ballet in which the people who inspired me preformed, as well.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?

I have been interested in marketing.

What is the best piece of dance advice you’ve received?

Find the positive in everything!
