3. Third-Party Service Providers
We use third-party platforms to operate portions of our online services, and those providers process
certain information on our behalf or as independent controllers under their own privacy policies and terms.
These third parties currently include, or are expected to include:
- Ticketmaster (or another third-party ticketing provider) — for the sale and management of ticket
purchases. - A donor management platform (such as Blackbaud/Raiser’s Edge) — for processing and
recording donations. - Square, or another payment processor, and/or a third-party e-commerce platform — for
processing merchandise and online store transactions. - A school registration and enrollment system (such as Active Network)
When you make a purchase or donation through one of these third-party platforms, your information is
also subject to that provider’s own privacy policy, and we encourage you to review it. We are not
responsible for the privacy or security practices of third-party platforms.
4. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information in exchange for money. However, some laws define “sale,”
“sharing,” or “targeted advertising” broadly, and our use of the advertising and analytics technologies
described in Section 5 (such as the Meta Pixel) may be considered a “sale,” “sharing,” or “targeted
advertising” under some of those laws. See Sections 5 and 9 for information about your choices. We may
share information:
- With the third-party service providers described in Section 3, solely to carry out the transaction or
service you requested. - With vendors who perform services on our behalf, such as email delivery and website hosting,
under confidentiality obligations. - With analytics and advertising providers, including Google and Meta Platforms, Inc. (Facebook
and Instagram), which receive information about your browser, device, and activity on the Site
directly through cookies, pixels, and similar technologies, as described in Section 5. These
providers may use that information for their own purposes as described in their privacy policies,
including to provide, measure, and improve their services and to show you advertising. - As required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety
of Grand Rapids Ballet, our patrons, students, donors, or others. - In connection with a merger, reorganization, or sale of substantially all of our assets, subject to
applicable law. - With your consent, or at your direction.
5. Cookies and Similar Technologies
The Site uses cookies, pixels, tags, web beacons, and similar technologies to recognize your browser,
remember preferences, analyze Site traffic, and measure the effectiveness of our communications and
fundraising campaigns, and to deliver and measure our advertising. You can control cookies through your
browser settings; disabling cookies may limit some features of the Site.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, to understand
how visitors use the Site, such as which pages are viewed, how long visitors stay, and how they arrived.
Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect information such as your IP address,
device and browser information, and your activity on the Site. Google processes this information on our
behalf and may also use it for its own purposes. We have also enabled Google Analytics advertising
features, which allow us to build audiences and show or measure advertising based on your activity on
the Site. To learn how Google uses data from sites that use its services, visit
https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing
the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Advertising and Social Media Pixels. We use the Meta Pixel, a tool provided by Meta Platforms, Inc.
(Facebook and Instagram), on pages of the Site, which may include pages for ticketing, donations,
school/academy enrollment, and merchandise. The Meta Pixel collects information about your browser
and device and your actions on those pages, such as pages viewed, buttons clicked, and whether you
begin or complete a ticket purchase, donation, registration, or order, and sends that information to Meta.
We use this information to measure the effectiveness of our advertising, to show our advertisements to
people who have visited the Site or who are similar to them (sometimes called “retargeting” or “custom
audiences”), and to understand how people use the Site. Meta may combine this information with
information it already has about you, including if you have a Facebook or Instagram account, and may
use it for its own purposes under its own policies. This activity may be considered “targeted advertising,” a
“sale,” or “sharing” of personal information under some state laws. You can manage the ads you see in
your Meta account settings at https://www.facebook.com/adpreferences, and you can review Meta’s
privacy practices at https://www.facebook.com/privacy/policy. We do not intentionally send Google or
Meta the content of registration or enrollment forms, such as a student’s name, date of birth, or health or
emergency contact information, and we do not knowingly use advertising pixels to target advertising to
children under 18.
WordPress, Plugins, and Third-Party Platforms. The Site is built on WordPress, which sets certain
cookies needed for the Site to function, such as cookies that keep logged-in users signed in or remember
details entered in comment forms. Plugins and embedded content on the Site (for example, contact
forms, embedded videos or maps, and social media buttons) may also set cookies or collect information
such as your IP address and the pages you visit, and may send that information to the third parties that
provide them. Information you submit through Site forms may be stored in our WordPress database and
sent to us by email. The third-party ticketing, donation, enrollment, and e-commerce platforms described
in Section 3 may use their own cookies and tracking technologies on their pages, which are governed by
their own privacy policies.
Your Choices. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies, and some allow you to send a “Do
Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signal. You can also opt out of interest-based advertising from
participating companies through the Digital Advertising Alliance at https://optout.aboutads.info or the
Network Advertising Initiative at https://optout.networkadvertising.org. Opting out may not stop all data
collection or the display of all advertising, and you may need to opt out separately on each browser and
device you use.
6. Children’s Privacy
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly
from children under 13 through the Site. Where a parent or guardian registers a minor for school or
academy programs, we collect the minor’s information from the parent or guardian for registration, safety,
and program administration purposes only. If you believe a child has provided us with personal
information without parental consent, please contact us using the information in Section 11.
7. Donor Information
As a nonprofit organization, we are committed to respecting donor privacy. We will not sell, trade, or rent
donor information to third parties. Donors who wish to remain anonymous in public materials, or who wish
to be removed from mailing or solicitation lists, may contact us using the information in Section 11, and
we will honor such requests to the extent reasonably practicable.
8. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information
from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. Payment card information is handled through PCI-
compliant third-party processors. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic
storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Your Choices and Rights
You may opt out of marketing or fundraising emails at any time by using the unsubscribe link in those
communications or by contacting us directly. Depending on your state of residence, you may have
additional rights regarding your personal information, such as the right to request access to, correction of,
or deletion of information we hold about you, and to opt out of targeted advertising and of the sale or
sharing of your personal information, subject to applicable exceptions.
To opt out of targeted advertising and of the use of the Meta Pixel and similar advertising technologies,
you can use a browser or extension that sends the Global Privacy Control signal, or follow the opt-out
instructions in Section 5. To opt out of Google Analytics, see Section 5.
To exercise any of your other rights, contact us using the information in Section 11. We may need to
verify your identity before responding, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law.
Some rights may not apply to certain information we hold, such as donor, financial, or tax records that we
must keep by law, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Effective Date” at the top of this Policy
indicates when it was last revised. Material changes will be posted on this page, and we encourage you
to review this Policy periodically.
