Grand Rapids Ballet’s Movemedia: Choreography that defies expectations
Great art isn’t accomplished in a flash of light. It’s assembled bit by bit over time. Movemedia, now in its fourth season, is a year-long process for the company with just four dancers among its 22 who were on the roster five or more years ago before the debut of the series created by Grand Rapids Ballet artistic director Patricia Barker.
This year, GRB sought proposals from choreographers worldwide. Some 60 submissions brought choreographers Robyn Mineko Williams from Chicago and Pedro Lozano Gomez from Barcelona to the company’s Peter Martin Wege Theatre for the first show.
