COVID-19 | POLICIES & PROCEDURES

Grand Rapids Ballet (GRB) looks forward to live, in-person performances and have been diligently preparing for a return following the coronavirus pandemic. The health and safety of our staff, patrons, and community remain our highest priority. Rest assured, GRB’s leaders continue following the recommendations of government officials and healthcare experts to ensure our guests have a positive experience when attending our performances or when visiting our facilities. 

 

In an effort to create the safest environment possible while attending our performances, for the *foreseeable future, we are requiring proof of fully vaccinated status OR a negative COVID test taken within 72 hours of performance. We require unvaccinated guests under 12 years of age to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 diagnostic test taken within 72 prior to entering the venue. Additionally, all guests will be required to wear a mask covering their mouth and nose while attending performances. Additionally, in areas with substantial and high transmission, the CDC recommends that everyone (including fully vaccinated individuals) wear a mask in public indoor settings to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, especially the Delta variant, and to protect others. Following that guidance, GRB is requiring all attendees to wear a mask while attending performances or visiting our building. Guests are asked to not attend any events if, within the past 14 days, they have had any COVID symptoms or have tested positive for COVID-19.

 

Upon entering performances at DeVos Performance Hall and Peter Martin Wege Theatre, all patrons will be required to provide:

– Proof of fully vaccinated status OR a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of performance

– A valid ticket to the performance

– Photo ID

– A face mask covering the mouth and nose

 

Please know, Grand Rapids Ballet remains committed to providing the highest levels of cleanliness and throughout the 2021|22 season and beyond, and we will work to maintain enhanced procedures in the following areas:

 

– Cleaning and sanitization of public areas.

– Reduced touchpoints for guests and staff.

– Hand sanitization stations are available throughout the building.

– Large open areas, including our theatre and studios, are being treated with an aerosolized EPA-registered, healthcare-grade disinfectant.

– Improved HVAC systems (further details below).

 

Grand Rapids Ballet installed Plasma Air bipolar ionization equipment in the HVAC systems in the dance studios as well as the theatre and stage house. Bipolar ionization has proven to be an extremely effective pathogen mitigation strategy and is in wide use in hospitals such as Boston Children’s Hospital and Johns Hopkins. It is also widely used in public gathering spaces such as airports, casinos, and schools.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will vaccinations against COVID-19 be mandatory to attend GRB events?

Yes, GRB patrons must be able to show proof that they are fully vaccinated at the time of entry into the theatre and will also need a valid ticket to the performance, and photo ID upon entering. Note, “Fully vaccinated” is defined as at least 14 days passed since receiving either the second dose of authorized double-dose vaccines or the sole dose of authorized single-dose vaccines.

Patrons unable to be vaccinated because of age, those with a medical condition, and/or closely held religious belief must provide results of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours, or a negative COVID-19 antigen test taken within 72 hours of their ticketed performance. 

Will I have to wear a mask to attend performances?

Yes, masks are required for all attendees regardless of vaccination status. Guests and staff will be expected to wear a mask at all times.

I have received my first COVID-19 vaccination, will my first dose vaccination card be accepted at entry?

A member of our group is under 12 years of age and is ineligible for vaccination, can they still attend an event requiring vaccination?

I am ineligible for vaccination due to underlying health conditions. Am I unable to attend an event requiring vaccination?

We require unvaccinated fans over 12 years old with a valid medical restriction and/or medical note to take a COVID-19 diagnostic test within 72 hours of performance and provide proof of negative results prior to entering the venue. What if I can’t get the vaccine for religious reasons?

We will make accommodations for guests with religious exemptions to attend performances if these guests provide printed proof of a negative COVID-19 diagnostic test taken within 72 hours of the performance. How soon before the performance date should I take a COVID-19 diagnostic test if I am not fully vaccinated?

Who will check vaccination status or negative COVID-19 diagnostic tests upon entry?

GRB is working with DeVos Performance Hall staff for performances taking place at their venue for the mandatory Health Screening process. Performances at Peter Martin Wege Theatre will utilize GRB staff and volunteers.

Is my health information protected?

GRB and all associated vendors will not store or have access to visitors’ health information. 

Will performances be socially distanced?

No. Currently, the State of Michigan does not require social distancing for indoor events. We continue following public health and safety mandates for capacity in our facility. 

Can I sit in my season subscriber seats this season?

At this time, GRB plans on providing subscriber seating similar to previous seasons. As the season progresses, please know, seating will follow public health and safety mandates and will be at the discretion of the Box Office. We will communicate any necessary changes in a timely manner if needed. 

Will theatre capacity impact my ability to attend a performance?

Our theatre capacity will follow public health and safety mandates and may affect where you sit or the day you attend. Subscribers will have priority access to the available seating. Single tickets (non-subscription ticket purchases) will be based on availability at the time of the performance. 

Will food and drink be served at performances?

Food and beverage services will not be open at our fall performances, and we will readdress availability for our winter and spring performances at a later date.

Will GRB and event staff follow the same protocol as patrons?

All staff members who will interact with patrons while attending a performance will follow the same onsite health and mask requirements as patrons.

What happens if my performance is canceled?

In the event that GRB cancels a performance, you will be notified via email with further details regarding return and exchange policies.

How will refunds work if I can no longer attend a performance?

To give our patrons peace of mind when purchasing tickets for the 2021-22 season, we will allow full refunds for any tickets up until 24 hours before your scheduled performance.
