Grand Rapids Ballet School’s Summer 2025 Contemporary Intensives, held from July 14-25, offers dancers the opportunity to broaden their skills beyond traditional ballet. The program includes classes in contemporary technique, improvisation, contemporary repertoire, conditioning, and PBT®, along with ballet technique. This unique, workshop-style intensive fosters group collaboration in a supportive, intimate learning environment.

Dancers will take daily classes with our esteemed faculty and enjoy a well-rounded curriculum, including the chance to work with GRB Company dancers and guest instructors.

CONTEMPORARY INTENSIVE AUDITIONS

VIDEO AUDITIONS

This year, we will only be accepting video audition submissions for our Contemporary Intensive. No in-person auditions. 

  • • Video (submitted via the video submission form) of at least five minutes but not longer than 8 containing the following elements (only one side needs to be shown of each combination, and the frame of the video should show your full body throughout):
    • ∙ Barre work: Plié, tendu, dégage, rond de jambe, développé (all directions), grand battement and a balance on one leg in attitude.
    • ∙ Center work: A one to three‐minute self or professional choreographed contemporary solo.

DATES & TUITION

Contemporary program dancers may select to attend between 1 and 2 weeks of the Intensive. To participate in the Summer Showcase performance, dancers must enroll in week 2 at a minimum.

  • Week 1: July 14 – 18
  • Week 2: July 21 – 25

Grand Rapids Ballet School maintains a no refund policy. Once the program has begun, tuition is non-refundable and if unused will be received as a donation. Scheduled holidays, breaks, and weather-related school closings do not alter monthly tuition.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

Contemporary Intensive students will take four classes per day Monday-Friday from 2:00 – 7:30 p.m. including contemporary and ballet technique, contemporary repertoire,  conditioning/stretch, Progressing Ballet Technique, and improvisation.

  • – 2-3:15 p.m.: Ballet Technique class
  • – 3:25-4:45 p.m.: Contemporary Technique class
  • – 4:45-5:15 p.m.: Dinner break
  • – 5:15-6:35 p.m.: Repertoire
  • – 6:40-7:30 p.m.: Conditioning

Financial Aid

Each year the GRBS awards financial aid to students who demonstrate financial need or artistic excellence. The financial aid fund is made possible through contributions by Wege Foundation, Beusse & Porter Family Foundation, James H. Schindler, and Stephen Dunker Memorial Scholarship Fund.
