2021-22 Jumpstart 2022

JUMPSTART 2022 | REFOCUS

March 25-27, 2022 at Peter Martin Wege Theatre

Grand Rapids Ballet’s Company dancers push the boundaries of choreographic exploration for our annual Jumpstart performance. Our multi-talented dancers refocus their creative energies, moving into the role of choreographer, building works for other company dancers.  Two works will be revived from our 2020-21 virtual season, including a reworking of the film, Amiss, choreographed by Resident Choreographer Penny Saunders, and Brothers by Jennifer Archibald.

Community Partnerships

This year, in celebration of our 50th Anniversary, each Jumpstart world premiere will incorporate a partnership with various community organizations, including Grand Rapids Art Museum, Grand Rapids Civic Theatre, Grand Rapids Jazz Orchestra, Grand Valley State University, Kendall College of Art and Design, and Opera Grand Rapids. Additional partnerships may be announced leading up to the performance. Jumpstart 2022 is sponsored by The Rosemary and David Good Family Foundation.

JUMPSTART 2022 PERFORMANCE SUPPORTING UKRAINE

Grand Rapids Ballet is jumping into action to support the refugees in Ukraine by hosting a special donation-based performance of Jumpstart 2022 on Saturday, March 26 at 2 p.m.

“The conflict in Ukraine and resulting refugee crisis is a horrific tragedy that the world is currently enduring. As artists, we sometimes feel helpless to make a difference, but one thing we can do is use our art to promote the common good,” said Artistic Director James Sofranko. “Please come support this cause and join me in thanking the dancers, actors, musicians, and crew members who are all donating this performance to the people of Ukraine displaced by war.”

All tickets will be “donate what you can” with a suggested $20 minimum donation with all proceeds benefiting United Way’s United for Ukraine Fund to support an immediate delivery of food, shelter, transportation, and childcare supplies to those fleeing the conflict.

Grand Rapids Ballet will accept cash or card donations, and the performance is first come, first served. Our hearts go out to all those affected, and we hope you consider joining us at this special performance. We also are accepting online donations.
