Grand Rapids Ballet School’s Summer 2024 Contemporary Intensives, taking place July 15-26, provides dancers a space to expand growing dance skills beyond traditional ballet with classes in contemporary technique, improvisation, contemporary repertoire, conditioning, and PBT® in addition to ballet technique. This truly unique workshop-style intensive encourages group participation in an intimate learning setting.

Students participate in daily classes with our renowned faculty and enjoy a comprehensive curriculum that includes exposure to GRB Company dancers and guest faculty.

To audition in person, dancers will need to attend a master class at one of the locations scheduled for our 2023 Audition Tour. All Master Class Auditions are 90 minutes and include a ballet technique warm-up with contemporary classwork to follow. Female students are not required to audition en pointe.

Please bring a physical copy (4×6 or 5×7 size is preferred) of the following to your Master Class Audition:

  • – A headshot photograph

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Registration for a Master Class Audition requires payment of a non-refundable $35 fee. This can be paid for using any major credit card by completing the pre-registration form online.

Registration will also be available in-person on the day of your class beginning 30 minutes prior to the start time; exact cash or check only for in-person registration.

VIDEO AUDITIONS

  • • Headshot emailed to School Director Attila Mosolygo at the same time you complete your registration
  • • Video (submitted via the video submission form) of at least five minutes but not longer than 8 containing the following elements (only one side needs to be shown of each combination, and the frame of the video should show your full body throughout):
    • ∙ Barre work: pliés, tendu from 5th, degagé, rond de jambe a terre, adagio, grand battement
    • ∙ Center work: adagio, pirouette combination with pirouettes en dehors and en dedans, petite allegro including jetés, assemblés, sissonnes, etc.
    • Contemporary improvisation or combination: a Contemporary combination, a short excerpt from a Contemporary choreography or improvisation

DATES & TUITION

Contemporary program dancers may select to attend between 1 and 2 weeks of the Intensive. To participate in the Summer Showcase performance, dancers must enroll in week 2 at a minimum.

  • 2 Weeks – $790

Grand Rapids Ballet School maintains a no refund policy. Once the program has begun, tuition is non-refundable and if unused will be received as a donation. Scheduled holidays, breaks, and weather-related school closings do not alter monthly tuition.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

Contemporary Intensive students will take four classes per day Monday-Friday from 2:00 – 7:30 p.m. including contemporary and ballet technique, contemporary repertoire,  conditioning/stretch, Progressing Ballet Technique, and improvisation.

  • – 2-3:15 p.m.: Ballet Technique class
  • – 3:25-4:45 p.m.: Contemporary Technique class
  • – 4:45-5:15 p.m.: Dinner break
  • – 5:15-6:35 p.m.: Repertoire
  • – 6:40-7:30 p.m.: Conditioning

Financial Aid

Each year the GRBS awards $68,000 in financial aid to students who demonstrate financial need or artistic excellence. The financial aid fund is made possible through contributions by Wege Foundation, Beusse & Porter Family Foundation, James H. Schindler, and Stephen Dunker Memorial Scholarship Fund.
