Grand Rapids Ballet School’s Summer 2024 Intensives include a Ballet Intensive program, taking place June 24-July 26, and a Contemporary Intensive program, taking place  July 15-26. In both programs, students participate in daily classes with our renowned faculty and enjoy a comprehensive curriculum that includes exposure to GRB Company dancers and guest faculty. BALLET INTENSIVE AUDITIONS

IN-PERSON AUDITIONS

Thank you for your interest in Grand Rapids Ballet School’s Summer 2024 Ballet Intensive! Please explore our Audition Tour Dates below!

  • – Ladies ages 15+ auditioning for the Ballet Intensive should plan to wear pointe shoes for the full class, if possible.
  • – Ladies ages 12-14 auditioning for the Ballet Intensive will be asked to wear pointe shoes for center work only.   

Please bring a physical copy (4×6 or 5×7 size is preferred) of the following to your Master Class Audition:

  • – Full body photo in first arabesque (en pointe if applicable)
  • – A headshot photograph

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Registration for a Master Class Audition requires payment of a non-refundable $35 fee. This can be paid for using any major credit card by completing the pre-registration form online.

If you are registering the day of the audition, please register in-person and not online. 

Registration will also be available in-person on the day of your class beginning 30 minutes prior to the start time; exact cash or check only for in-person registration.

VIDEO AUDITION

  • Please submit a copy of the following with your Video Audition:
  • -Full body photo in first arabesque (en pointe if applicable)
  • – A headshot photograph
  • Photos can be emailed to School Director Attila Mosolygo at the same time you complete your registration
  • – Ladies ages 15+ should wear pointe shoes for all combinations, if possible.
  • – Ladies ages 12-14 should wear pointe shoes for center work only, if possible.  If a student is has only 1 year of training en pointe, they should wear pointe shoes for only the pointe combinations specified.
  • • Video (submitted via the video submission form) of at least five minutes but not longer than 8 containing the following elements (only one side needs to be shown of each combination, and the frame of the video should show your full body throughout):
    • Barre work: pliés, tendu from 5th, degagé, rond de jambe a terre, adagio, grand battement
    • Center work: adagio, pirouette combination with pirouettes en dehors and en dedans, petite allegro including jetés, assemblés, sissonnes, etc.
    • Ladies pointe work: two pointe combinations showing both sides that include échappés, retirés, single/double pirouettes
    • Men: two combinations showing entrechat quatre or entrechat six and single/double tours en l’air

SENIOR BALLET INTENSIVE

June 24 – July 26, 2024
Ages 12-22 (audition required)

In the Summer 2024 Senior Ballet Intensive, students will enjoy studying with guests and Grand Rapids Ballet School faculty, refining their skills in technique and artistry. Students receive training in ballet, contemporary, pointe, repertoire, and variations. Students also gain valuable tools through specialized classes in Progressing Ballet Technique®, jazz, musical theater, cardio training, and more.

Students will have the opportunity to perform in a showcase at the end of the summer. This opportunity is open to everyone who at a minimum attends the last two weeks of classes.

DATES & TUITION

Senior Program dancers may select to attend between 1 and 5 weeks of the Intensive. To participate in the Summer Showcase performance, dancers must enroll for at least Weeks 4 & 5, minimum.  If a dancer chooses to enroll in Week 5, Week 4 must also be one of their additional weeks.  Enrolling in Week 5 ONLY is not an option.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

Senior Ballet Intensive students will take four to five classes per day Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm including technique, pointe, mens, variations, contemporary, jazz, musical theater, repertoire, turns/jumps, conditioning/stretch, and Progressing Ballet Technique.

  • – 10-11:30 a.m.: Ballet Technique
  • –  11:40 a.m. -12:55 p.m.: Contemporary
  • – 12:55-1:45 p.m.: Lunch
  • – 1:45-2:30 p.m.: Pointe / Mens
  • – 2:40-4:00 p. m.: Repertoire

JUNIOR BALLET INTENSIVE

June 24 – July 26, 2024
Ages 9-13 (no audition required)

The Summer 2024 Junior Ballet Intensive is a comprehensive program created especially with the aspiring young dancer in mind. Presented in a nurturing and encouraging environment, students will receive individual attention and custom instruction in order to improve their technical skills, in both ballet and contemporary styles of dance. Students are required to have at least 2-3 years of ballet training.

Students will have the opportunity to perform in a showcase at the end of the summer. This opportunity is open to everyone who at a minimum attends the last two weeks of classes.

DATES & TUITION

Junior Program dancers may select to attend between 1 and 5 weeks of the Intensive. To participate in the Summer Showcase performance, dancers must enroll for at least Weeks 4 & 5, minimum.  If a dancer chooses to enroll in Week 5, Week 4 must also be one of their additional weeks.  Enrolling in Week 5 ONLY is not an option.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

  • – 11:00-11:15 a.m. OR 3:00-3:15 p.m.: Snack Break
  • – 11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m  OR 3:15-4:30 p.m.: Contemporary

Financial Aid

Each year the GRBS awards $68,000 in financial aid to students who demonstrate financial need or artistic excellence. The financial aid fund is made possible through contributions by Wege Foundation, Beusse & Porter Family Foundation, James H. Schindler, and Stephen Dunker Memorial Scholarship Fund.
