GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Oct. 18, 2022Grand Rapids Ballet School’s (GRBS) Junior Company is ready to fill the stage at its Peter Martin Wege Theatre with a special Halloween weekend performance, “Spooktacular,” that’s perfect for the whole family. The one-hour ballet is spooky fun and appropriate for all ages.

With witches, mummies, tricks, and treats – a hauntingly good time awaits at this special Halloween ballet with choreography by Junior Company Artistic Director Attila Mosolygo. The story follows a young girl on Halloween night as her only wish is to go trick or treating with her older sister and her friends. When they refuse to let the youngin tag along, she embarks on a mischievous plan to get their candy. Follow the adventures in their neighborhood with appearances by skeletons, Martians, Frankenstein, and even the “Addams Family!”

“It is exciting to be able to bring this Junior Company production back to the stage this Halloween weekend,” said GRBS Director and Junior Company Artistic Director Attila Mosolygo. “The students have been working hard over the past two months to bring the audience’s favorite Halloween characters to life. This entertaining ballet is perfect for the whole family and everyone is encouraged to attend in costume!”

Rehearsals for “Spooktacular” began in early September. Older students were tasked with learning multiple roles to fulfill the performance’s two casts, comprised of 41 dancers each. Dancers attend a minimum of one rehearsal per week throughout the week at Grand Rapids Ballet’s Meyer Royce Center for Dance, and in many cases, depending on the role, dancers rehearse multiple days.

For an added experience, GRBS Junior Company invites audience members to wear their Halloween costumes while attending “Spooktacular.” Everyone who attends a performance in costume will be entered into a special drawing to win tickets to the Junior Company production of “The Wizard of Oz” in March!

The GRBS Junior Company is comprised of 52 students who attend Grand Rapids Ballet School, between the ages of 10 and 19. Being part of the Junior Company provides the opportunity to perform in their own productions and alongside the professional dancers of Grand Rapids Ballet. To participate in the Junior Company, students are required to be enrolled full-time at Grand Rapids Ballet School and maintain a 90% attendance record.

“Spooktacular” takes place October 28-30, 2022 at Peter Martin Wege Theatre. Audience members can choose between evening or matinee performance options, beginning at 7:30 p.m. or 2 p.m. Tickets are available now for only $20 online, via phone at (616) 454-4771 ext. 110, or in-person at GRB’s Box Office.
