Join Grand Rapids Ballet School’s five-week Summer Intensives, featuring daily training in ballet, contemporary, pointe, repertoire, and variations—plus specialized classes in Progressing Ballet Technique®, jazz, cardio training, and more. Choose anywhere between one and five weeks of study.

Work alongside GRB Company dancers and guest faculty who bring professional insight and inspiration.

The session concludes with a student showcase performance, celebrating your summer of growth on stage.

  • Ladies ages 15+ auditioning for the Ballet Intensive should plan to wear pointe shoes for the full class, if possible.
  • Ladies ages 12–14 auditioning for the Ballet Intensive will be asked to wear pointe shoes for center work only.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Registration for a Master Class Audition requires payment of a non-refundable $35 fee. This can be paid for using any major credit card by completing the pre-registration form online.

If you are registering the day of the audition, please register in-person and not online.

Registration will also be available in-person on the day of your class beginning 30 minutes prior to the start time; exact cash or check only for in-person registration.

Ladies ages 15+ should wear pointe shoes for all combinations, if possible.

Ladies ages 12-14 should wear pointe shoes for center work only, if possible. If a student is has only 1 year of training en pointe, they should wear pointe shoes for only the pointe combinations specified.

  • Video of at least five minutes but not longer than 8 containing the following elements (only one side needs to be shown of each combination at the barre, and the frame of the video should show your full body throughout):
  • Barre work: pliés, tendu from 5th, degagé, rond de jambe a terre, adagio, grand battement.
  • Center work: adagio, pirouette combination with double pirouettes en dehors and en dedans from 4th position (right and left, singles if beginner), petite allegro including jetés, assemblés, and/or sissonnes.
  • Ladies pointe work: All applicants- one pointe combination that includes échappés and retirés, one combination that includes single/double pique turns, step-over turns and chaînés.
  • Beginners only- one combination that includes single en dehors pirouette from 4th position.
  • Men: Grand allegro combination and a combination showing single/double tours en l’air.

Michael Wagley

Born in Columbus, Ohio, Michael Wagley trained at the Grand Rapids Ballet School, San Francisco Ballet School, and as a member of Houston Ballet II. He began dancing professionally with Ballet San Jose before going on to perform with The Royal Ballet of Flanders (Belgium), Staatsballett Berlin (Germany), and Universal Ballet Company (South Korea).

Since retiring from performing in 2017, Michael has worked as a ballet teacher and holds RAD Registered Teacher Status as well as a BA in Dance Education from the Royal Academy of Dance in London. He has taught at both the professional and university levels as an artistic staff member at Incheon City Ballet and Hansung University in South Korea, and he is proud to have worked with students now training and dancing in professional ballet schools and companies across Europe, Asia, and North America. He has also served as a ballet competition jury member for the World Ballet Trial in Malaysia.

Michael is currently a faculty member at Boston Ballet School. He has also taught at Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre and Northeast Youth Ballet and is pursuing a Master’s degree in Dance Education.

Andi Salazar

Since relocating to the United States, Andi has performed for renowned choreographers including Joe Landini and Molissa Fenley, and she has showcased her work with “APulso Dance Project” at various festivals and venues nationwide. As a teaching artist, she has shared her expertise at Alonzo King Lines Ballet and American Ballet Theater. After moving to the Midwest from NYC, she has taught at several institutions, including the University of Michigan Dance Department, Western Michigan University, Alma College, Grand Rapids Ballet, Eastern Michigan University, and Grand Valley State University.

Born and raised in Santiago, Chile, Andi is a professional choreographer, dance educator, performer, and sociologist with a diverse and accomplished career. Her artistic and educational voice has been shaped through years of dedicated practice and study. She earned her BA in Sociology from the Catholic University of Chile, followed by an MFA in Dance and Choreography from Mills College in Oakland, CA. Most recently, she obtained a Master’s degree in Dance Education from NYU, specializing in Teaching Dance in the Professions: ABT Pedagogy.

Mikey Winslow

With dreams fully realized he moved back home to Michigan, earned a master’s degree, and shifted his focus to teaching and creating. Today, Winslow works as a local teaching artist and director/choreographer. His classes blend kindness with radical accountability, fostering an environment for growth, play, and deeper connection. He is passionate about helping dancers of all levels embrace their humanity.  Mikey is honored to have the opportunity to teach at the Grand Rapids Ballet School.

Growing up, Mikey Winslow was first a student of music. This foundation shaped his approach to dance, where music remains central to both his performance and choreography. After graduating from Western Michigan University with a BFA in Musical Theatre Performance, Winslow pursued a career in the theatre, achieving his dreams and performing in numerous Broadway musicals, including West Side StoryAmerican Idiot, and On the Town. After a total hip replacement in 2018, Winslow returned to the stage in Hamilton.

Amber Neumann

Originally from Niles, Michigan Amber Neumann moved to Chicago to attend the Joffrey Ballet school under the direction of Alexei Kremnev and Anna Reznik. That same year, after taking the top prize at the prestigious New York International Ballet Competition, she received offers to join Miami City Ballet, Scottish National Ballet and the Joffrey Ballet. After choosing the Joffrey Ballet, Ms. Neumann stayed with the company for 7 years where she danced solo and principal roles and was named Pointe Magazine’s “Top 10 Performances of 2012” for her interpretation of Wayne McGregor’s “Infra”.

In 2016, Ms. Neumann joined SF Danceworks for their inaugural season before receiving an invitation to join Ballett Augsburg in Germany. After a year with Ballett Augsburg Ms. Neumann continued her European tour, dancing for Ballett Hagen for 4 years, performing works from Itzik Galili and Alejandro Cerrudo, among others. Ms. Neumann then took over the position of Rehearsal Director and assumed the role of Interim Director, taking on all responsibilities as the sole rehearsal director for the next two years, working with the ballet and opera departments, as well as choreographing, dancing and singing in musicals and rock concerts. Ms. Neumann is now the Rehearsal Director for DanceAspen and continues to teach internationally for professionals and ballet enthusiasts, as well as providing movement coaching and training for actors and singers.  

Jasmine Mejia

Jasmine Mejia is an NYC native, choreographer, and teaching artist. She is an Assistant Professor of Dance and Co-Director of H2 Dance Company at Hope College. Jasmine is a recipient of ACDA’s ALVA Award for Choreographic Excellence (2024) and a Towsley Research Scholars Fellow (2024-2028). Her choreography has been featured off-Broadway and in festivals, residencies, and venues nationwide. Additionally, her dance films have been screened in various film festivals. Jasmine performed internationally as a company member of Von Howard Project, MADArt Creative, LMproject, and Jamal Jackson Dance Company. Jasmine received her MFA in Dance from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and a BFA in Dance and Choreography from VCU.

Noelani Pantastico

Originally from Oahu, Hawaii, Noelani Pantastico trained at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet from 1991 to 1997 and attended Pacific Northwest Ballet School’s summer courses from 1994 to 1996. She joined Pacific Northwest Ballet as an apprentice in 1997, rising to corps de ballet in 1998, soloist in 2001, and principal dancer in 2004.

In 2008, Noelani joined Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo as a soloist and was promoted to first soloist in 2009. She returned to PNB in 2015 as a principal dancer, performing a vast repertoire across both companies. 

Noelani was featured in the BBC’s 1999 film version of PNB’s production of Balanchine’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, filmed at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London. She also performed as a guest artist with the New York City Ballet during its Balanchine Centennial in 2004, dancing the second movement of Brahms-Schoenberg Quartet.

Beyond performing, Noelani has contributed to the dance world in various capacities. In 2017, she choreographed PICNIC for Sculptured Dance, a collaboration between Pacific Northwest Ballet and the Seattle Art Museum. In 2019, she co-founded Seattle Dance Collective (SDC) alongside PNB principal dancer James Yoichi Moore.

Shortly after retiring from the stage in February 2022, Noelani joined the CPYB faculty, where she was promoted to Director of the Pre-Professional Division in August 2022 and to Artistic Director in April 2023. She currently travels nationwide as a freelance teacher and coach and also stages works by French choreographer Jean-Christophe Maillot, sharing her expertise with students and professional dancers.

James Sofranko

A dancer for the past 18 years at San Francisco Ballet,  James Sofranko has danced in numerous works and world premieres by choreographers such as Helgi Tomasson, Val Caniparoli, William Forsythe, Liam Scarlett, Justin Peck, Alexei Ratmansky, Edwaard Liang, Lar Lubovitch, Wayne McGregor, Mark Morris, Julia Adam, Yuri Possokhov, Christopher Wheeldon, Paul Taylor, Arthur Pita, Stanton Welch, Jorma Elo, Hans Van Manen, Jiri Kylian, John Neumeier, James Kudelka, Lila York, Kenneth Macmillan, George Balanchine, and Jerome Robbins. Some of his favorite roles include ‘Mercutio’ in Tomasson’s Romeo and Juliet, ‘Eros’ in Mark Morris’ Sylvia, ‘Bugle Boy’ in Taylor’s Company B, and the second sailor in Robbins’ Fancy Free.

He received an Isadora Duncan award (“Izzie”) for Best Performance in 2011 in Yuri Possokhov’s  Classical Symphony.

James was featured in the principal role of ‘Eddie’ in the Broadway touring company of  Movin’ Out, a musical choreographed by Twyla Tharp to the songs of Billy Joel.

In 2012, Sofranko co-founded DanceFAR (Dance For A Reason), an annual benefit performance and after-party that brings the Bay Area dance community together to support the work of the Cancer Prevention Institute of California (CPIC). In 2014, he received the Inspiration Award from CPIC. To date, DanceFAR has raised over $450,000 in support of their programs and initiatives to prevent cancer.

In 2014, Sofranko formed a new contemporary repertory company in San Francisco, SFDanceworks. The first two seasons have played to sold out houses and the company has presented works by Alejandro Cerrudo, Lar Lubovitch, José Limón, and world premieres by Penny Saunders, James Graham, Danielle Rowe, Dana Genshaft, and James Sofranko.

Sofranko has also created many original choreographic works, including two for the San Francisco Ballet School Trainee program, SFDanceworks, Long Beach Ballet, and Marin Dance Theater.  James also works as a repetiteur for Yuri Possokhov, resident choreographer for San Francisco Ballet, and has staged his ballets on Cincinnati BalletColorado Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet.

Along with his duties to Grand Rapids Ballet, Sofranko will continue to develop SFDanceworks, currently presenting a San Francisco season every summer.

Attila Mosolygo

Attila was born in Kisvarda, Hungary. He received his early training at the National Ballet Institute in Budapest. After moving to the United States, he joined the Joffrey Ballet School. He has performed as a guest artist with Mobile Ballet, Bravo Dance, Harrisburg Ballet, Ballet Theatre of Chicago and the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago. Attila spent sixteen years as a company dancer and eight years as a Ballet Master at Grand Rapids Ballet. As a company dancer, a few of his notable roles include The Prodigal Son in George Balanchine’s Prodigal Son, Max in Septime Webre’s Where The Wild Things Are, Charlie Chaplin in Gordon Peirce Schmidt’s Flickers, Tibalt in Mario Radacovsky’s Romeo and Juliet, and Melancholic in George Balanchine’s The Four Temperaments. Attila became the Director of the Grand Rapids Ballet School Junior Company in 2011 and School Director in 2017. For the Junior Company, Attila has choreographed Snow White, Peter Pan, Beauty and the Beast, Carnival of the Animals, Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes, and The Wizard of Oz.

SENIOR BALLET INTENSIVE

Designed for advanced students, Grand Rapids Ballet School’s Senior Summer Intensive offers an immersive five-week experience focused on technical excellence and artistic growth.

Each day includes classes in ballet, contemporary, pointe, repertoire, and variations, along with specialized training in Progressing Ballet Technique®, jazz, and cardio conditioning. Students work closely with GRB Company dancers and distinguished guest faculty, gaining valuable insight into the professional world of dance.

The program culminates in a showcase performance, giving dancers the opportunity to demonstrate their progress and artistry on stage.

DATES & TUITION

Senior Program dancers may select to attend between 1 and 5 weeks of the Intensive. To participate in the Summer Showcase performance, dancers must enroll for at least Weeks 4 & 5, minimum.  If a dancer chooses to enroll in Week 5, Week 4 must also be one of their additional weeks.  Enrolling in Week 5 ONLY is not an option.

Grand Rapids Ballet School’s Junior Summer Intensive offers young dancers a comprehensive five-week program designed to strengthen technique and build confidence.

Taught in a supportive, nurturing environment, students receive personalized instruction in ballet and contemporary dance, focusing on precision, musicality, and artistry. Participants should have 2–3 years of prior ballet training.

The program concludes with a student showcase, open to dancers who attend at least the final two weeks—an exciting opportunity to perform and share their progress on stage.

DATES & TUITION

Junior Program dancers may select to attend between 1 and 5 weeks of the Intensive. To participate in the Summer Showcase performance, dancers must enroll for at least Weeks 4 & 5, minimum.  If a dancer chooses to enroll in Week 5, Week 4 must also be one of their additional weeks.  Enrolling in Week 5 ONLY is not an option.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

Junior Ballet Intensive students will take two to three classes per day Monday-Friday 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. including technique, contemporary, turns/jumps, stretch, conditioning, jazz, musical theater, and repertoire.

  • 11:00-11:15 am: Snack Break

Grand Rapids Ballet School maintains a no refund policy. Once the program has begun, tuition is non-refundable and if unused will be received as a donation. Scheduled holidays, breaks, and weather-related school closings do not alter monthly tuition.
