GRAND RAPIDS BALLET SCHOOL

Updated COVID-19 Safety Guidelines

The health and safety of all students, faculty, and staff remain among the highest priority of Grand Rapids Ballet School (GRBS). Due to the ever-changing nature of COVID-19, and in alignment with current safety protocols from The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), and The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Grand Rapids Ballet School is updating our safety guidelines for the 2021-22 School Year programs within the Meijer-Royce Center for Dance and Peter Martin Wege Theatre.

GENERAL HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS

  • – The building will continue to be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.
  • – Sanitizing stations will be available throughout the building and in all studios.
  • – Staff will spray the barres with disinfectant before and after each class.
  • – Bathrooms will be cleaned and sanitized frequently.
  • – Students are required to wash their hands after using the bathroom, sneezing, coughing, or nose-blowing.
  • – Floors will be cleaned in each studio at the end of each day.
  • – The facility is available only to students and staff except for drop-off times.
  • – Students should bring a water bottle clearly labeled with their names.
  • – Signage will be displayed at all entrances describing sanitation procedures and updated guidelines.
  • – Our staff will continue to intentionally distance students at the barre and during center.

DROP-OFF & ARRIVAL PROCEDURES

  • – All parents and guardians will be asked to remain alert for any COVID-19 symptoms and keep the student home if any signs of illness are present.
  • – Parents/guardians may enter the lobby briefly during arrival to aid their dancers in the check-in process.
  • – Following drop-off, the lobby will be closed during the day.

MASK-WEARING SAFETY

  • GRBS will continue following the guidance of the CDC, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and Kent County Health Department in requiring all individuals to wear masks at all times while in the facility, regardless of vaccination status.

CONFIRMED CASE PROTOCOL

  • – In compliance with the CDC and local health officials, any student who has symptoms of COVID-19 should not enter the building.
  • – If a student or staff member becomes ill during the day, they must contact the School Office immediately and will be isolated in a specified area until they can leave the building.
  • – In the event of a confirmed exposure:
    • – Exposed individuals who are vaccinated may continue participating in classes as usual unless symptoms are developed.
    • – Any non-vaccinated individuals will be required to isolate for 3-5 days and may return upon the receipt of a negative test result. For those who do not wish to participate in a COVID-19 test, an isolation period of 10-12 days is required. During this time, dancers will transition into our virtual classes.
    • – If an individual receives a positive test result, they will not be allowed to return to in-person classes until after they have quarantined for 14 days and are symptom-free
    • – GRBS will notify all individuals from that cohort and the Kent County Health Department of the positive case
    • – GRBS will respect the privacy of any student or staff member who reports an illness
    • – GRBS will inform others of an infected individual but will do so without identifying them by name
    • – GRBS will coordinate with local health officials to assess the risk and communicate to parents and guardians and staff, which will align with our organization’s emergency operations plan
  • – In the event of a dancer experiencing symptoms that prevent participation in the program, please contact the school office.

BUILDING CONTROLS

  • – Air filters have been cleaned/replaced and will continue to be replaced.
  • – Building ventilation systems have been evaluated and will continue to be monitored for airflow, ventilation, and circulation.
  • – Air handlers have been cleaned and filters have been upgraded.
  • – Where possible, doors are propped open to reduce touch points on handles.
  • – Some doors must be closed except when in use to maintain proper airflow.
