Senior Ballet Intensive

In the Ballet Intensive program, students enjoy studying with stars from today’s ballet world, refining their skills in technique and artistry. Students receive training in ballet, contemporary, pointe, men’s jumps, plus classical and contemporary variations. Our summer program also provides an opportunity to train with renowned master teachers while learning original choreography for a performance at the end of the session. Students also gain valuable tools through seminars and specialized classes in nutrition, injury prevention, cardio training and more.

A Day in the Senior Intensive:

10-11:45 am – Ballet Technique
12-1 pm – Pointe / Men
1-2 pm – lunch
2-3:30 pm – Contemporary
3:45-5 pm – Repertoire

Senior Ballet Intensive students will take 4 classes per day, dancers will participate in a number of rotating classes including, but not limited to, Technique, Contemporary, Repertoire, Variations, Turns/Jumps, Conditioning, Pointe, Mens, Pas de deux, Cardio Dance and Pilates.

Junior Ballet Intensive

The GRB Junior Ballet Intensive is a comprehensive program created especially with the aspiring young dancer in mind. Presented in a nurturing and encouraging environment, students will receive individual attention and custom instruction in order to accelerate their technical proficiency, and cultivate artistic expression in both ballet and contemporary styles of dance.

A Day in the Junior Intensive:

10:00 – 11:30, Ballet Technique
11:30 – 12:00, Break for lunch
12:00 – 1:30pm, Contemporary
1:30 – 2:00pm, Turns & Jumps

Junior Ballet Intensive students will take 3 classes per day, beginning each morning with ballet technique. After breaking for lunch, dancers will participate in a number of rotating classes including, but not limited to, contemporary, turns/jumps, stretch/strengthen, and repertoire.

Program Tuition

Ballet Intensive Senior:
$450 per week or $1,875 for 5 weeks (save $375)

Ballet Intensive Junior:
$250 per week or $975 for 5 weeks (save $275)

Evening & Weekend Activities

For a weekly fee, students are welcome to participate in our off-campus coordinated activities.
We will be heading to local restaurants, parks, museums, and theaters; Grand Rapids is a growing city with exciting places to explore!

The fee covers the transportation and event cost for these activities.
For a reduced fee, students may opt to provide their own transportation to and from the scheduled event.

Students must sign-up and pay the weekly activity fee by May 22
in order to be guaranteed transportation, and in some cases an event ticket.
Any student who does not submit an advance fee is still welcome to attend a coordinated activity;
however, will need to provide his/her own transportation and individual payment for any event ticket/experiences.

Please note, activity fees are not covered by scholarship awards, merit or financial-based.

Activity and Transportation Fee, $40 / Week
Students will be transported from Grand Rapids Ballet to the activity and back.

Activity Fee Only (NO additional transportation provided), $25 / Week

Scholarships

A limited number of scholarships are available for the 2017 Summer Intensive Program.
Scholarships are awarded based on need and talent.

Register for your Audition

Dancers attending our open auditions in person are asked to arrive at least 15 minutes early in order to complete their registration.
All dancers should bring a headshot and a photo in arabesque. Ladies should be prepared to audition en pointe.

Video Audition

April 17, 2017 is the deadline to submit a video for auditions.

Requirements

Video should include Barre and Center Work including Pirouette combinations,
Petite allegro and Grand allegro (duration should be between 4-5 minutes)

Men: Include entrechate quatre or entrechat six (depending on level of advancement)
single and/or double tours

Ladies: Pointe work (two combinations that demonstrate the student’s technical strength)

Audition Fee

The Summer Intensive audition fee is $20.

Isabella LaFreniere is a member of New York City Ballet’s corps de ballet. She was born in Lambertville, Michigan, and began her dance training at the Northeast Academy of Dance under Giuseppe Canale and Scott Heinrich.

Aaron Renteria

Joffrey Ballet

Mr. Renteria studied under Lola de Avila and Patrick Armand at the San Francisco Ballet School, spending three years in the School and two in the Trainee Program. Later, he became a member of the San Francisco Ballet company after one year as an apprentice. Read more…

Patricia Barker

Director, Summer Intensive Faculty

Patricia Barker, former principal dancer with Pacific Northwest Ballet, is considered one of the world’s most gifted ballerinas. She received her early ballet training from Lynne Williams in Richland, WA, studied on scholarship both at Boston Ballet School with E. Virginia Williams and Violette Verdi and Pacific Northwest Ballet School with Francia Russell, Perry Brunson and Janet Reed. Read more…
